I'm currently in the process of creating a new project centred around sharing the stories of individuals who use running to improve their mental health and general well-being. I'm currently talking to runners from all over England and hope to build a diverse collection of stories with the project potentially taking shape as a photobook as well as a photo essay.
There is an abundance of online articles explaining the various ways running can benefit the mind as well as the body. In late 2018, I wrote an article in Dure Magazine about some of the latest scientific research on the benefits of outdoors exercise in helping people who struggle with depression, anxiety and tramatic pasts. In the article I share the stories of three runners who are all living proof of the positive effects of running.
It's now 2019, I'm in my final semester of my degree and now feel like I should explore this topic further. My aim is to continue to share inspiring stories from fellow runners who are bending adversity. This project is all about me harnessing the power of visual storytelling and portrait photography to spread positive news. It's as simple as that.
